As for the technicality of my project, I’m planning to finish it by April 21st, and present it on May 5th (See Table 1). As most of my work, it will be minimal, so the materials are few. I will be using Microsoft Word to write the short story, and Procreate app for the illustrations. As for the last step of combining the text and images, I will use Canva.com.

Mar 24 -Finish brainstorming phase

Mar 27- Finish story outline

Mar 31 - Finish first draft of written work

Apr 3 – Start sketching illustrations

Apr 07- Comic first draft is done

Apr 10 – Second draft of written work

Apr 14 - Finalize illustrations

Apr 17 – Start combining comic elements

Apr 21- Final touches and editing

I chose to create a short comic that focuses on the theme of immigration and the variation, or erasure, of identity. Through fictional characters and plot, the comic will explore heavy topics without stepping into controversy. The initial title is “Lost in Translation,” and the narrative will overly rely on the metaphor of the title.

This work will be submitted as a final Integrating Activity project, with a theme that’s close to me. The topic of identity has been circling my life for the last few years. I have dealt first-hand with the difficulty of melding into a new identity while still recognizing the old one. My comic will link between the several IDs immigrants have and their sense of self. It’s a plea to accept you who exists here and there. The notion of identity is broad, that’s why I want to dive into the foreigner experience and how moving between places can affect us.
